7 Elements of Art Workshop

The Young Artists Workshop's 8-week Art Exploration Series!

Over eight awesome weeks, students jump into one of Young Artists Workshop’s signature programs and explore the seven core elements of art through ALL BRAND NEW hands-on projects, playful experimentation, and real creative discovery. With tons of encouragement, guided exploration, and room to make bold choices, students build their skills, find their style, and unleash that unstoppable imagination—all while having a blast.

Week 1: Exploring Color

In our first week, students will dive into the vibrant world of color. They'll learn about the color wheel, color theory, and the emotional and psychological effects of color. Through color mixing experiments, color harmony studies, and color-themed projects, students will explore the endless possibilities of color in their artwork.

Week 2: Introduction to Line

Students will explore the element of line. They'll learn about the different types of lines and their expressive qualities, from straight and curved lines to thick and thin lines. Through drawing exercises and collaborative projects, students will experiment with line variations to create dynamic compositions.

Week 3: Exploring Shape

Students will delve into the world of shape. They'll discover the difference between geometric and organic shapes and explore how shapes can be used to convey meaning and emotion in art. Through sculpting, collage, and mixed media projects, students will experiment with shape manipulation to create visually engaging artworks.

WEEK 4: UNDERSTANDING FORM

Students will explore the element of form. They'll learn how to depict three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface through shading, perspective, and contour drawing. By studying still life arrangements and exploring sculptural techniques, students will gain a deeper understanding of form and volume in their artwork.

WEEK 5: CREATING SPACE

Week five will focus on the concept of space in art. Students will learn about positive and negative space, foreground and background, and techniques for creating depth and perspective in their compositions. Through landscape painting, spatial arrangement exercises, and collaborative mural projects, students will explore the illusion of space and experiment with different spatial relationships.

WEEK 6: TEXTURE EXPLORATION

In week six, students will explore the tactile quality of texture in art. They'll learn about visual texture versus actual texture and experiment with a variety of techniques to create different surface effects. From textured collages and relief printing to impasto painting and mixed media experiments, students will discover the expressive potential of texture in their artwork.

WEEK 7: VALUE STUDIES

Week seven will focus on the element of value. Students will learn about the importance of light and shadow in creating form and volume. Through grayscale studies, chiaroscuro techniques, and still life drawings, students will explore the nuances of value and learn how to effectively use contrast to add depth and dimension to their artwork.

WEEK 8: SYNTHESIS AND REFLECTION

In our final week, students will have the opportunity to synthesize and reflect on their learning from the past seven weeks. They'll engage in a culminating project that integrates multiple elements of art and allows them to showcase their newfound skills and creativity. Through group critiques and self-reflection exercises, students will celebrate their artistic journey and set goals for future artistic exploration.

Meet the Masters Art Workshop

The Young Artists Workshop's 8-week Art Exploration Series!

Welcome to "Meet the Masters," an inspiring 8-week art workshop series where students will delve into the lives, techniques, and masterpieces of some of the most influential artists in history.

Week 1:Frida Kahlo Self-Portraits & Symbolism

In our first week, students will dive into Frida’s vibrant world of emotion and identity. Students will create expressive self-portraits filled with meaningful symbols that represent their own lives, feelings, and dreams—just like Frida did.

Week 2:Henri Matisse Bold Colors & Paper Collage

In week two, students will explore how Matisse “painted with scissors”! In this workshop, students will design bold cut-paper collages full of organic shapes and vibrant hues inspired by the master of Fauvism.

Week 3:Jean-Michel Basquiat Street Art Meets Fine Art

In week three, students will channel their inner rebel! Students will create raw, energetic mixed-media artwork using paint pens, oil pastels, and layered symbols—celebrating the graffiti-inspired genius of Basquiat.

Week 4:Yayoi Kusama Infinity & Polka Dot Magic

In week four, students will step into Yayoi Kusama’s mesmerizing world of pattern and repetition. We’ll explore her obsession with dots, symmetry, and endless space as students create abstract art using bold shapes, vibrant color, and repeated motifs that feel both playful and hypnotic.

Week 5:Keith Haring Art in Motion

In week five, students will step into Keith Haring’s dynamic world of bold lines and high energy. Using simple figures and vibrant color, they’ll create movement-filled compositions that pop with rhythm, storytelling, and joy. From chalk-style outlines to modern remix collabs, this session is all about expression in motion.

Week 6:Alma Thomas Radiant Rhythm in Color

Week six, students will explore abstract mark-making using bright, repeating patterns that feel like confetti bursting across the page! Using paint or collage, they'll create their own circular or linear compositions filled with colorful "tiles" that mimic Alma’s signature mosaic style. This session is all about color, rhythm, and letting loose with positivity on the page!

Week 7:Alberto Giacometti Figures in Motion

In week seven, students will sculpt tall, slender foil figures inspired by the haunting forms of Alberto Giacometti. Using armature and expressive poses, each student will create their own character frozen in motion—exploring proportion, balance, and gesture through tactile 3D form.

Week 8: Culmination and Celebration

In our final week, students will have the opportunity to celebrate their artistic journey and showcase their masterpieces inspired by the great masters of art history. Through a culminating exhibition or presentation, students will share their creative achievements with family, friends, and fellow art enthusiasts, reflecting on the lessons learned and the inspiration gained throughout the workshop series.

🎨 The Artist’s Sketchbook

The Young Artists Workshop's 8-week Art Exploration Series!

🎨 The Artist’s Sketchbook Unleash creativity, build skill, and fill the pages! In this 8-week journey, students transform blank sketchbook pages into a vibrant portfolio of expressive, finished artwork. Each session explores a unique theme—from perspective and figure drawing to mandalas, prompts, and collage—guiding students step-by-step to create thoughtful, skill-driven pieces they’ll be proud to showcase.

Week 1: Drawn to Perspective

We’ll kick things off by exploring one-point perspective to create a bold, dramatic city street or surreal hallway scene. Students will learn how to use vanishing points and horizon lines to pull viewers into their art.

Week 2: Eye See You

We zoom in on the human eye as a miniature figure drawing session—full of emotion, shadow, and form. Students will learn basic anatomy and shading to create a realistic or expressive eye close-up.

Week 3: Pattern Playground

Students will create a bold black-and-white or colorful abstract design using structured patterns and repetitive line work. Think high-contrast calm-meets-chaos on the page!

Week 4: Mandala Magic

We slow things down and tap into symmetry, focus, and color theory as students build layered mandalas using pencil and fine-tip markers. Meditation meets math meets art.

Week 5: Still Life Remix

Old-school meets cool. We’ll work from a small still life set-up using graphite pencils to explore line, shading, and realism—building strong drawing foundations with a twist of personal flair.

Week 6: Prompt Power!

We flip the creative switch with a mystery prompt draw. “Draw a house with legs,” “Make a creature from three different animals,” etc. Students will use pencil and colored pencil to bring unexpected ideas to life.

Week 7: Cover Story

Students will create a layered mixed-media collage cover for their sketchbook using magazine clippings, paint, and ink. We’ll explore visual storytelling through bold composition and layering.

They'll include a heartfelt artist statement written inside the front cover, reflecting on their favorite piece, what they learned, and how they grew.

Week 8: Frame This!

Our final masterpiece: students choose one favorite work from their sketchbook and give it a finished, gallery-worthy glow-up. We'll mat it on black or white and add final touches so it’s ready to be displayed with pride.
